Pawel Grunert‘s SIE43 chair is made from PET bottles on a stainless steel frame. The bottles can be replaced if and when they begin to show signs of wear or damage. The chair was designed for ‘Eco Trans Pop’ exhibition of ecological design at the Colombari Gallery in Milan, Italy.
These drop-dead gorgeous vintage bus scroll and leather chairs are by DavidMetNicole in Sydney. They’re available to order at Atelier Abigail Ahern for an eye watering £3,995 apiece…. maybe I’ll get two 😛
Here are two fabulous examples of worn out, drab old furniture being brought back to life with a little TLC… (aka from Eeew to Ooooh! :P)
First – Claires’ boring, old fashioned telephone table… she took one of the most un-hip items of furniture imaginable, and made it into a bright modern piece that anyone would be proud to have in their hallway.
Next, Eily found herself in posession of various pieces of furniture when she bought an old cottage, and among them was this pretty scary fireside chair. Several layers of fabric had to come off, but what an elegant transformation – it’s barely recognisable as the same chair!
Just when we thought there could be no possible use for all those offcuts of wood and broken furniture, these guys come along and show us how to up-cycle in style…

Every once in a while I stumble upon an artist or designer whose work just makes me beam from ear to ear – in this case it’s British textile designer Zoe Murphy. Zoe’s repurposed mid century pieces and vintage textiles are printed with imagery inspired by her beloved home town of Margate – her ethos is ‘love what belongs to you’.
She has already had her work shortlisted for the BBC New Designer Of The Year Award, and exhibited at Free Range design shows, New Designers 2008 and The Old Town Gallery in Margate, even though she only graduated from university last year. I’ll be keeping up to date with her work on her blog, as I can’t wait to see more from her.
